NameIncredible Edible Clara Vale
DescriptionIncredible Edible Clara is a project for living differently - for connecting with and caring for our community and landscape through localised food production. The idea is simple: we are taking back the unused spaces around our village to grow and share food. We have started small and guerilla - planting fruit trees and bushes (where this can be done in harmony with the site); engaging in foraging walks; seed and recipe sharing including through the CLARA VALE SEED LIBRARY (based at The Village Hall); and taking collective, creative stewardship of the land around us. Surplus food from our trees and allotments is harvested and sold through weekly pop-up events with all profits going to the Gateshead Food Bank. It is our aim that, as we come together as a community around food growing, sharing, cooking and eating, we will; Learn more about food production, security and distribution; Map and redress the imbalances of food production, distribution, consumption, and waste in our local community and beyond; Share and invest in kindness and mutual support; Learn and share different skills and tools across different ages; Develop learning opportunities around trees, plants, food and foraging.
