| Description | Ermington is a small village and civil parish, lying on the banks of the River Erme between the town of Ivybridge and the coastline of the South Hams. There have been people living here for more than 3000 years, and in 2011 the parish population was 824. Like many villages in the South Hams, Ermington no longer has a shop or post office. Early in 2011, a fortnightly market, Ermington Sustainable Saturdays was launched in the Reading Rooms, which has grown and developed over the years. A new housing development, The Spires, was constructed in 2013 which allowed many families to move back into the village and take advantage of the Pre-School and School. As our community grew stronger, the need for a shop, a meeting point, a Hub for our parish and village became clearer and clearer. Led by the owner/chef of The First and Last Bistro, work began in 2019 to gather together a group of volunteers to bring it about. The result is Ermington Store and More - it's a shop, a cafe, a community space for events and classes, a home for our Market, all at the centre of the village. It's run by the community, for the community. |
