DescriptionWSFPO currently has 38 member vessels ranging in size from U10m static gear vessels to 16m trawlers. Our main target species is nephrops (langoustine, scampi), while scallops, queenies, crab lobster, shrimp and razor fish are also caught by member vessels. Small by-catches of whitefish are taken by the trawlers, which will generally be sold locally. Seasonally some vessels will pair trawl for sprats, and, if quota is available, herring. WSFPO are members of the Scottish Association of Fish Producers Organisations, and our staff currently hold the chair of West Of Four Fisheries Management Group and are on the Board of Seafood Scotland. At a European level, we are members of the North Western Waters Regional Advisory Council WSFPO is committed to the small communities in which its members operate and, in co-operation with other organisations, is committed to ensuring the survival of the fishing industry for future generations within our area.
