    <dc:description>The Shetland Livestock Marketing Group (SLMG) was formed in November 2003 and is an agricultural producer co-operative. In September 2001, it was recognised that a review of the various agricultural bodies in Shetland was necessary. A working group was formed to conduct a wide ranging investigation of the issues affecting agriculture in Shetland and to re-define the aims and objectives of farmer-controlled businesses in Shetland. The businesses brought into the amalgamation process were the Shetland Marts Cooperative, the Shetland Flock Health Association, the Shetland Animal Health Trust, the Shetland Agricultural Association and the Shetland Abattoir Cooperative. The rationale for amalgamation was communicated at a series of public consultations throughout the Islands in January 2003. Shetland farmers and crofters voted overwhelmingly in support of a new body and SLMG was born. In April 2004, SLMG appointed Karl Simpson as Marketing Manager.
